Environmental Hazards Section

Lead

Environmental Health collaborates with the nursing staff and other medical personnel of Person County, and a Regional Lead Specialist from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, in order to conduct investigations of children with elevated blood lead levels to determine the actual sources of contamination and to aid in the procedures for remediation. Elevated blood lead levels in children under the age of six can cause developmental problems.
