Family Planning/Women’s Preventive Health
The Family Planning Program consists of education, social, and medical services. Such services enable people to understand their sexuality, determine the number and spacing of their children, and prevent unwanted pregnancies. The program makes it possible for women to have children at ages when there is the least risk for undesirable health outcomes. Both males and female clients are served through this program.
Services are provided regardless of religion, sex, age, marital status or contraceptive preference. The fee-for service is based on a sliding scale to determine the client’s cost, unless the client is eligible to receive services payable through Medicaid or the Title X Program. Services are provided at no charge to teens.
A Physician Assistant sees patients on Mondays and Wednesdays. Duke University Medical Center OB/GYN residents serve patients on three Friday mornings a month. If there is a fifth Friday in the month, patients are also seen on that morning. Appointments are scheduled, however walk-ins are worked in when possible. Patients who need to be evaluated and/or treated for a Sexually Transmitted Disease are also seen in these clinics. Specially trained enhanced role nurses are also able to see patients when no medical provider is present.
Monday clinics run until 5 p.m. to accommodate teens and women who work. This clinic is very well received.
