Laboratory
The laboratory is essential and complementary to the other programs of the health department. Our mission in the laboratory is to ensure that diagnostic testing is performed in an accurate and timely manner. The laboratory offers support to other programs in the health department with the following tests which are essential screening and diagnostic tools:
Adult Health Program - hemoglobin, urinalysis dipstick, cholesterol, glucose, diagnostic profile, and Pap smear
Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Program - hemoglobin, cholesterol, glucose, urinalysis dipstick, and Pap smear
Child Health Program - hemoglobin, lead screening, urinalysis dipstick, uricult, PKU, and sickle cell testing
Family Planning/ Sexually Transmitted Disease Program - hemoglobin, urinalysis dipstick, uricult, glucose, Pap smear, G.C. culture, syphilis serology, sickle cell testing, pregnancy testing, chlamydia, wet prep,herpes and HIV testing
Maternal Health Program - syphilis serology, rubella, blood type and Rh, Hepatitis testing, HIV, sickle cell testing, AFP, hemoglobin, urinalysis dipstick, uricult, pregnancy test, Pap smear, G.C. culture, chlamydia, wet prep, and vaginal B strep.
Walk- in Patients - glucose, hemoglobin, hemocult, HIV, PKU, syphilis serology, urinalysis dipstick, pregnancy testing, cholesterol, sickle cell testing, lead screening.
WIC Program - hemoglobin, lead screening
Environmental Health Program - bacteriological water sample analysis
Teen Clinic - hemoglobin, urinalysis dipstick, cholesterol, syphilis serology, G.C. culture, chlamydia, Pap smear, HIV testing
TB - diagnostic multichem, CBC with differential, sputum culture
The laboratory hours of operation are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday - Friday. Patients are accepted for specimen collection from 8:00 AM until 3:30 PM to allow specimen processing for same day shipment. Eligibility for laboratory services is determined by the various Program Coordinators.
